Disney’s $1.5 Billion Investment

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Disney and Epic Games have joined forces to create an expansive and open gaming and entertainment universe. This new venture, powered by Unreal Engine, will bring Disney's beloved stories and characters to life, offering a world-class gaming experience that seamlessly integrates with Fortnite's massive player base of over 100 million.

Disney is making a bold move, investing $1.5 billion in an equity stake in Epic Games, signalling a significant entry into the world of video games. Despite Disney's dissolution of its metaverse division last year, this partnership marks a fresh commitment to immersive experiences. The collaboration aims to transcend traditional gaming boundaries, providing opportunities for fans to play, watch, shop, and engage with Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more in innovative ways.

This isn't just about gaming; it's about creating a persistent universe where players, gamers, and fans can craft their own stories and express their Disney fandom uniquely. The teaser on YouTube has already generated excitement, showcasing the potential for a one-of-a-kind entertainment experience.

Disney's CEO, Bob Iger, emphasized the magnitude of this collaboration, highlighting the significant growth and expansion opportunities it presents. As the project awaits regulatory approvals, it's clear that Disney and Epic Games are embarking on an extraordinary journey to redefine the intersection of gaming and entertainment.

Play-to-airdrop Guide

We know the gaming narrative is hot. There are many games launching their own tokens. And they’re doing it through play-to-airdrop campaigns. This is helping them reach their target audience and improve long-term retention.

While these events and competitions can be rewarding, you can’t manage to farm every single airdrop. So how do you evaluate P2A campaigns and build conviction in a team? Well, you can do that by checking few things:

  • Airdrop size: The airdrop has to be worthwhile for you to spend days if not weeks playing the game. So you have to ensure you are not getting diluted by other exclusive communities that have easy access to the airdrop.

  • Utility: If we are being honest, the utility of any gaming token is yet to be proved sustainable in the long run. But, in the short-term, anything that involves revenue sharing or something that boosts player experience will play a role in creating more demand.

  • Tokenomics: No project has perfect tokenomics. But you have to ensure the teams are giving enough supply for the community. Anything above 15% is fantastic. At the same time, you should check how long the vesting period is for the team and other investors. If there’s no vesting, the tokens can be dumped on day 1 itself.

  • Exchange listings: If tokens are launching on top-tier exchanges like Binance, they will likely attract demand early on and add necessary liquidity.

  • Campaign duration: An airdrop is an exclusive event for early supporters. If the team is dragging it out for months, the excitement will fade away and rewards will get diluted.

  • Gameplay: Try as much as possible to find games that you actually enjoy playing. This helps you build conviction in the project and you may benefit from holding tokens for longer periods.

These are a few factors you need to consider. At the same time, you have to know some red flags as well. If the team boasts about high player count and you don’t see it in action, it is likely the game is full of bots. Further, the P2A events require people to make an investment to increase odds of airdrop eligibility.

Airdrop farming in gaming has changed many lives in the space. So be on the lookout for new opportunities and keep trying new games. I would recommend teaming up with a friend to divide and conquer, while documenting everything.

Gaming Rotation Ahead?

In crypto, liquidity is spread thin. Investors and traders take on different kinds of risk as markets show their hand on what narrative is popping. At the moment, one of the hot narratives that everyone wants to have exposure to is gaming.

We have seen Immutable X (IMX) rally more than 40% from its lows to $3 and BigTime (BIGTIME) put in a 30% daily candle. There is also Beam from Merit Circle that has recovered extremely well. From what I am seeing, people are betting on gaming in two different ways.

The first way is having maximum exposure to the space itself by investing into ecosystem coins like IMX and BEAM. These projects are building a library of games, so the likelihood of success is more. On the other hand, there are people betting on standalone projects like Shrapnel, Parallel, MapleStory, etc. These have great potential based on their gameplay, team, and community.

Besides gaming tokens, the NFT space is also gearing up for its next leg. These NFTs are usually free mints, so it’s given for early supporters and people participating in certain campaigns. To position well in gaming, you can participate in competitions, earn whitelist spots, and farm airdrops.
