Let’s get started!

New Layer-3 Gaming Blockchain 🔥

Two layers is not enough..huh? Apparently not! I’m just kidding!

You see, games require their own blockchain environment. That's why we are seeing games embrace blockchains that can provide that flexibility and customizability. Avalanche and Polygon offer customizable blockchains in the form of subnets and supernets, respectively.

Similarly, Arbitrum is now trying to grow its blockchain gaming ecosystem by building a blockchain called Xai. Offchain Labs, the parent company of Arbitrum, will be facilitating and serving the technology.

What makes Xai an attractive choice for game devs:

1. Built-in account abstraction

AA is the talk of the town in gaming. With complex onboarding procedures, it is paramount for games to have AA integrated and make player experiences frictionless.

2. Low gas fee

While we are yet to see what Xai’s gas fees will be, it claims to have very low fees. And we know gas fees can be a deciding factor. Xai also offers higher contract limits to give more flexibility for developers.

3. Leverages the security of Ethereum

The base layer of Xai will be Ethereum, followed with Arbitrum. So Xai can benefit from the security and decentralization standards of Ethereum.

The first game launching on Xai will be FROM Ex Populus called Final Form, a trading card-based auto battler. A second game is also in the works called LAMOverse, an online shooter game that is tied to NFTs.

Fully On-Chain Games — Worth It? 🤔

On-chain games are not what you think they are!

A game with assets living on the blockchain doesn’t make it a fully on-chain game. So what is it then?

A fully on-chain game is something that has all the game-altering logic on the blockchain and represented by smart contracts, and all game data shared publicly on-chain.

Why put everything on-chain?

Having key components of a game on-chain has its share of benefits that potentially make it the next frontier of gaming. Here are some benefits to putting everything on-chain:

  • Not shutdown risk: If the game logic and all data sources are on-chain, the game devs can’t simply shut it down. The game will live on forever and anyone can build on top of it.

  • Censorship resistant: When player accounts are on-chain, devs can’t simply delete them and ban them from playing or other game activities. This can lead to more engagement and immersion for players.

  • Empowers user generated logic: We have seen user generated content so far. Imagine what it would look like if gamers could create their own logic by using the base layer and create content from it. Creating mods in this manner is better aligned for players incentive-wise.

Due to these advantages, we will see a much more enhanced loop of game life cycle. This means that a game doesn’t end after a certain time period. There will be constant improvement to the game world, resulting in better communities and open economies.

At the same time, we have to note that fully on-chain games are not easy to implement. The technical challenges are too many including but not limited to slow latency, lack of default privacy, and bots.

Ringer “Goose” NFT Sold for $6.2 Million 💰

In 2021, Ringers #879, an NFT from Dmitri Cherniak's generative art project, became one of the most expensive ever sold, fetching 1,800 ETH ($5.9 million).

Two years later, it found a new home through Sotheby's Grails: Part II auction, with Punk6529 winning the bid at $5.4 million. The final price, including the buyer's premium, surpassed $6.2 million.

This auction injected excitement into the struggling NFT art market, closing at nearly $11 million. Ringers is a collection of 1,000 generative NFTs created by Cherniak, released on ArtBlocks in January 2021.

Ringers #879 holds immense value due to its accidental emergence as an animal shape, a rare occurrence in generative randomness. The artwork's provenance traces back to New York, where a physical version was printed and signed.

It was minted on January 31, 2021, sold to pixelpepe, and eventually purchased by Three Arrows Capital for 1,800 ETH. Now, as a result of the fund's liquidation, Ringers #879 has found its new owner in Punk6529, continuing its captivating journey through the world of NFTs.
